Heads up – this is a brand-new variegated form and released fall of 2019 for the first time anywhere.

The form is generally upright and eventually forms a small spreading mid-sized tree.

Foliage:
Selected for both shape and color, the lobes of the leaves are cut quite deep to the midrib and are deeply and irregularly serrated creating a lacey and delicate appearance. In spring the reticulated variegation is primarily a coral color with hints of amber and light pink, contrasted by burgundy veins. In summer the leaf edges & veins are yellow green with an amber-peach interior. Fall color is red-orange.

Bark:
No significant bark character noted.

Flower:
No notable ornamental flower characteristics.

Fruit:
Fruit set is typical, bright red samaras contrasted against the leaves.

Height 10’ to 15’
Width 8’ to 12’

As a recent introduction the ultimate size is still under evaluation - this is an estimate based on the size of the parent under cultivation.

5-8 

After many years of seed collection and evaluation this outstanding new introduction is the first Japanese maple that was deemed distinct enough to introduce. Named for granddaughter number one, Elena Grace Desper.
